The Story of PassionEats Soul Food & Catering

My Beginning/My Passion

My passion and love of cooking was cultivated by my husband’s grandmother, Mrs. Bobbie Wilson of Dora, Alabama.  As I expressed my desire to cook more than just good fried chicken and spaghetti, she would take the time to teach me how to do meal planning, stay on the phone while I grocery shopped, and coached me through the process of preparing many successful meals.  After mastering the basics, I soon began cooking for many family gatherings and it seems like overnight my home became the “go to” place for family and friends. Traditional potlucks soon turned into well planned out events with everyone requesting me to prepare entire meals.  This may seem like a chore to some – but for me cooking soon became a form of therapy.  To see people coming together to enjoy what I prepared and show their appreciation for my labor of love, was truly self-satisfying.

My Business

After being in the cosmetology industry as a hair stylist and owner/operator of my own salon for a total of 15 years, the desire to expand my horizons grew. It was then that I decided to nurture my passion for cooking which lead me to my new venture. It all started with me preparing what is now one of PassionEats signature dishes, “White Chicken Chili.” Even though I did not mind cooking for the enjoyment of others, the entrepreneur in me would not allow me to lie dormant on this new endeavor.  I made my first pot, and it was delicious!  I took the leftovers from that pot and sold it in my salon. The response was amazing! I started preparing different dishes and selling them at the salon on weekends. I can honestly say the demand became greater than the supply.  We soon began taking orders from schools, churches, several different businesses, and the rest is history. After cluttering my house with products, supplies, and food that was not for domestic purposes, I saw the need to acquire a space to operate my newly formed business.  In March of 2017,  PassionEats was formed and opened its doors @ 915 W. 87th Street.

My Experience

Since its conception, it has been the goal of PassionEats to provide high quality service to the customers and a whole lot of Passion in every meal. Our brand is committed to catering to the mind, body, spirit, soul, and taste buds of every person we serve.  We pride ourselves on excellence in taste, presentation, service, and consistency.  We want everyone to speak positively about their experience with our brand.  I personally oversee every aspect of the operation: from training and developing my staff to ensuring we deliver the highest level of quality and provide an excellent experience whether it’s a small party or large extravaganza.

My Goal

PassionEats' overall goal is to be a company admired for its values and standards as well as become Chicagoland’s best one-stop caterer. Our future endeavor is to acquire our own banquet facility that will allow us to enhance and continue to provide superb home cooked meals for churches, businesses, non profit organizations, weddings, reunions, anniversary parties, and all other special occasions.  Lastly, our plan is to give back to the community by educating and cultivating young people between the ages of 5-25 who have a Passion and desire to learn the process of proper food handling and cooking techniques in an effort to spread the PassionEats experience as far and wide as humanly possible.
